While at a bachelor party recently, a fellow attendee told me he was at a wedding and the first song the DJ played was Busta Rhymes’ “Break Your Neck.”
As someone in their early thirties, I’ve been to my fair share of weddings. I admit I haven’t seen everything, but this is the craziest wedding story I’ve heard.
To me it’s the imagery in my head that makes this event remarkable. Just think: you’re at a nice reception hall, everyone is dressed well. After eating some mediocre food, and making chit chat with strangers, the bride and groom have their first dance. Everyone’s watching them carefully. Afterwards, there might be some other dance with the parents, but everyone is still smiling as they bask in the glow of the married couple’s new nuptials and the ensuing party that is about to start.
Then, reading the crowd and knowing that everyone wants to cut loose, the DJ knows just where this party needs to go to. He digs deep and drops this club banger from 2001.
When I heard this story, I was delirious with laughter. Is it possible this story isn’t true? Yes. Is it possible people play more club music at their weddings than the usual Motown/Top-40 blend? Also possible. Busta Rhymes is a party starter of the first class order. If this story is true, I’m sure it’s not the first wedding he’s started the party at, and I hope it’s not his last.
To both Busta and the wedding DJ, I hope you keep breaking their necks!
