Hey Readers. Just when you thought you’ve read every post about the new Summer release, here’s one more to make your release notes cup runneth over.
I would have been sooner to the blogging party, but life as a solution engineer at Salesforce keeps you busy, so with a little bit of a lull I was able to catch up and put this post together for you. Like last time, I’m taking a break from the monolithic release recaps and just focusing on creating a more succinct and meaningful summary.
Let’s dive in.
The two biggest things in the release notes are the following:
- You can create custom address fields (beta).
- Related lists can now be filtered. You can watch a video of it in action here. This means your related lists tab is about to become much more interesting.
Surveys
- Matrix questions are now possible
- You can now add a logo to surveys. Why wasn’t this already a thing?
Scheduler
- Multiple attendees can sign up for a single event. However, it cannot be reversed
Search
- Search Manager will help you define what’s searchable. As a former consultant in the Microsoft tech stack where there was lots of capabilities around search, I really like what I see here.
- You can now receive answers to your questions in search without having to open a knowledge article (Pilot).
- Search Layouts for Classic is now a list view button. Slightly less confusing!
Analytics
- Data flows can be converted to recipes (beta)
- Cross-joins are now generally available
- You can now monitor the templated app creation with the new enhanced app installer. This is very slick.
- Opportunity insights dashboard gets a facelift. I think this looks nice. It loses some interesting visuals, but frees up a lot of real estate.
- Embedded dashboards can now filter external data sources in context. Cool!
- Analytics now shows recent reports (core Salesforce reports) and analytics elements in one spot, not all over the place (Beta). I’m not sure how I feel about this. I only speculate the the core reports as we now it are heading more towards what’s now known as CRM Analytics (insert FKA joke here).
Experience Cloud
- Users can now deactivate their account
- Run Flows for Guest Users is deprecated. This came out in Winter 22 and is now enforced.
Field Service
- Enhanced scheduling optimization is here, which really enabled better behind the scenes capabilities.
- Scheduled jobs can run independent within service territories to better manage optimization (aka more granular control)
- You can now specify travel mode – i.e. walking, heavy truck. If you’re Busta Rhymes, set the default value to Flip Mode.
- Service Appointments can now slide. Basically appointments can move up earlier or later depending on a resource’s availability. This helps close whitespace in their schedule.
- Holiday shifts are now possible.
- Bundling of service appointments is probably the highlight here. If you have a service appointment at the same location and there are common steps to put on goggles, inventory the site, bundling will bundle the appointment and then shorten the time of these redundant tasks, creating more whitespace. Pretty slick.
- We’re still investing in Chatter apparently
- Customers can now sign on their own devices. This is done via Flow and experience cloud.
- Saving the best for last. The Field Service App will now do things like Clippy: “Oh you’re moving? Do you want to update the status on this service appointment?”
CPQ
- Getting a performance boost which requires slight UI changes. Started last summer, being enforced now.
Industry Cloud Common Components
- Business Rule Engine can now be invoked from flows and visualized.
- Form reader’s data extraction can go to multiple objects
Public Sector Solutions
- Guided setup is now in PSS
- New objects alert 🚨 – Dynamic Assessments and Care Plan Templates
Sales Cloud
- Sales Cloud Unlimited Edition and Performance Edition now have the following without requiring an add-on SKU:
- Speaking of High Velocity Sales, it’s now been renamed to Sales Engagement
- HVS/SE now allows you to see sales cadence steps in task reports
- With HVS/SE you can now send 1,000 emails a day via external services. Not clear if this is per user or at the org level.
- Einstein Deal Insights, part of the pipeline inspection SKU, is here. It’s like next best action. We already have opportunity scoring and discovery, this is either another tool, or perhaps a vision to get us to one tool.
- Einstein Activity Capture now allows you to manage associated records. No more relating emails to the wrong person. This is long overdue IMO.
- Overdue tasks are now red, as in that will make guilty parties take action on them
Flow
- Formulas can now be used as entry conditions for flows
- Name and address fields can appear directly on flow screens. This alone is going to transform millions of existing flows and make a lot of developers’ lives easier.
- Want to test flows and their expected outcomes? You can now that! (Beta). It doesn’t work on flows that delete a record.
- Lastly, screen flows can be sent to Slack with an invocable action (Beta). I’m really curious to see where we go with this.
Service
- Milestones now stop on the first action, not the most recent action
- Experience cloud has a new component – embedded messaging – which replaces the embedded service / channel menu component.
- Service cloud voice is now covered under HIPAA compliance
- Omni-channel alert sounds are now configurable
Bots
- Bot templates are now beta. A bot template includes data, flows, and Apex.
- Bot builder continues to look better with each release
Potpourri
- Mobile briefcase builder now supports 50,000 records instead of 2,000
- Picklist values can now be managed in bulk
- Einstein has a new logo. First thing I thought about when reading that is this line from the Simpsons:
